1. Characteristics of J-e Rope®

Compatible with Environmentally Acceptable Lublicants (EALs) J-e Rope®

J-e Rope® is an environmentally friendly wire rope for marine and soil applications.

An environmentally acceptable lubricants (EAL), compliant with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements, is used during the wire rope manufacturing process. It reduces environmental impact while providing excellent resistance to seawater and other salt-related corrosion.

Joint development with Idemitsu NTG Co., Ltd. (formerly Nippon Grease Co., Ltd.)
Patent No. 7399970
NETIS Registration No. KKK-250001-A

1. Biodegradability

Biodegradability refers to the property of a substance to be broken down by the action of microorganisms and ultimately converted into water and carbon dioxide under natural conditions.
Biodegradability Test Method: OECD* 301B

2. Non-Toxicity (Acute Toxicity)

Non-toxicity refers to the property of a substance that does not cause harmful effects on humans or animals.
Non Toxicity Test Method: OECD 201/202/203

3. Non-Bioaccumulation

Non-bioaccumulation refers to the property of a substance that does not accumulate at high concentrations within living organisms.
Bioaccumulation Test Method: OECD 117

4. No Rainbow Sheen on the Water Surface

No oily residue remains, so water and oil do not mix to form a rainbow-colored sheen.

* OECD Test Guidelines are internationally agreed test methods used to obtain information on the physicochemical properties of chemical substances and their mixtures, as well as their effects on ecosystems, biodegradability, bioaccumulation, and impacts on human health.

2. Typical Applications

Shipbuilding, Ships and Workboats

Winches (Hull Lifting, Ground Improvement, etc.)
Workboats
Anchor ropes

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Fish landing winches
Bottom trawl nets
Aquaculture rafts
Net setting ring wires

Power and Flood Control

Water gates

Port Facilities

Gantry cranes

3. Comparison with Conventional Wire Rope Grease

1. Corrosion Resistant Test

A salt spray test (JIS Z 2371) was conducted, with visual Inspections performed every 8 hours.

Rust appeared on both samples at approximately the same time.
However, the subsequent rate of rust progression was slightly faster with the conventional red rope grease.
The corrosion resistance of the eco-friendly grease is equal to or better than that of conventional grease.

2. Fatigue Test

A repeated bending fatigue test was conducted, and the number of wire breaks was evaluated.

Up to 6,000 bending cycles, both samples showed the same number of wire breaks.
Beyond 6,000 cycles, the conventional rope exhibited a higher number of wire breaks.
The fatigue performance of the eco-friendly grease is equal to or better than that of conventional grease.
